On Saturday 23rd November, I was fortunate enough to attend the Motorcycle Live event at the NEC in Birmingham.
One of the biggest motorcycle events in the world, Motorcycle Live opens its doors from 10am to 5pm for a full week and attracts over 100,000 visitors a year - mainly those who ride motorcycles but its doors are open to people of all ages who enjoy the thrill of motorbikes!
The event itself has hundreds of stalls, with it's biggest exhibitors coming from the bike manufacturers - Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Triumph and many, many more! Alongside the stalls with the bikes, there were many outlets selling bike gear, including gloves, helmets, clothing and leathers, as well as places to buy tools, get quoted for bike insurance and lots of other things for those who ride motorcycles.
At the event, I was able to speak to 2003 WorldSBK champion and TNT Sports commentator Neil Hodgson. We spoke about why it can be so difficult to adapt between Superbike and GP racing machines and why British riders are struggling to get onto the GP ladder. Hodgson provided some great insight as a former racer and the interview will be available as part of the MotoMMP project.
The main stars of the event were the RoKiT BMW WorldSBK team, as it brought its riders Michael van der Mark and Toprak Razgatlioglu to the event to talk about their 2024 season. It was a great year for BMW as they won the WorldSBK teams' title for the first time, and they saw Razgatlioglu crowned as champion in the riders' standings! I was lucky enough to meet the pair after their talk with TT presenter Grace Webb in the expert lab and both were very nice and also very funny to be around.
I made the decision to head to the event as a spontaneous decision on Friday morning after finding out about it through social media, and it was definitely a great decision on my part. Being able to enjoy the event while also getting some work done for university was a great combination and I hope to be able to attend the event next year.
